When Chronograph launched its Model Context Protocol (“MCP”) server with Claude, the team knew it would unlock countless new possibilities for how clients work with their Chronograph data using AI.
In just these first two weeks, clients have shared their excitement, use cases, and even specific prompts that yield them valuable insights. Some represent the exact problems Chronograph aimed to solve when building the integration originally. Others are leveraging it in ways that surprised even the Chronograph team, finding creative applications the company hadn’t considered. Each has been interesting and rewarding to hear about.
With comprehensive Chronograph data instantly accessible alongside the multitude of connectors and data sources available with Claude, the possibilities are infinite. Here are five of those compelling use cases Chronograph has heard from clients already.
Many Chronograph LP clients manage portfolios beyond private markets such as one Chronograph client with portfolio construction that mirrors the Yale Model – balancing heavy alternatives allocations alongside public equities, fixed income, and other asset classes. This investor uses Claude to orchestrate sophisticated cashflow forecasting across their entire portfolio, not just their private markets allocation. By querying historical capital call patterns, distribution rates, and unfunded commitments, modeling commitment pacing scenarios takes only seconds.
This client created a Claude Project, adding context to Chronograph data such as target allocations, planned commitment schedules, and other asset class data. By then asking “assess whether my private capital commitment pacing is sufficient to keep target allocations in line for the portfolio over the next 5 years.” Claude was able to analyze the data, respond with a dashboard showing projections, and offered a few opportunities for increasing commitments in the near-term.
In seconds, Claude analyzed Chronograph portfolio data to run an analysis that previously would have required tedious, manual spreadsheet work.
Chronograph’s xConnect Excel plugin already revolutionizes how clients work with private markets data in their existing models by creating a real-time link to Chronograph data within spreadsheets – enabling instant refreshing of complex models. Now, Chronograph’s Claude MCP server takes this to an entirely new level.
One client leverages Claude’s access to Help Center documentation to rapidly replace hard-coded, previously manually updated Excel models with dynamic xConnect formulas querying the Chronograph database.
As a secondaries investor, they are always looking to accelerate time to value per transaction. Now, their pricing models populate instantly with trusted Chronograph data. Rather than digging up documents and manually compiling inputs, they are able to dive straight into the important diligence and evaluation work necessary to understand the opportunity – a massive win for both quality and frequency of dealmaking.
As we showcased in this recent mobile demo, Chronograph’s MCP integration transforms meeting prep from hours to minutes.
Ahead of an AGM, a client asked Claude to “summarize all active investments made by Huron Oak Equity in the last year and highlight out- and under-performing portfolio companies.” This instantaneous summarization removes tedious administrative work required for meeting preparation, allowing this client to have more time to build opinions and drive results.
As teams finalize 2025 reviews and plan for the year ahead, Chronograph’s MCP integration is becoming a strategic planning partner. The integration enables comparative analysis across investment strategies at speed, helping LPs optimize their allocation mix.
Clients are running sophisticated queries like “Compare the risk-adjusted returns of our co-investment program versus primary fund commitments over the last five years.” Or evaluating new strategies: “How would adding a 15% allocation to secondaries impact our portfolio’s liquidity profile and expected returns?”
One particularly innovative use case involved an LP asking Claude to “identify which of our existing GP relationships would be best positioned for co-investment opportunities based on their track record, our current exposure, and their sector expertise.” The analysis combined performance data, portfolio composition, and strategic objectives to deliver actionable recommendations that would have taken weeks of traditional analysis.
For LPs with expansive portfolios, understanding GP reporting nuances is important. A Chronograph client shared with the team one use case they have, using Claude to identify overlapping exposures to underlying portfolio companies and analyzing when there are valuation disparities. This client created a Claude Artifact to visualize how two different GPs valued the same software company.
Beyond simple comparison, teams are asking Claude to explain potential reasons for valuation differences in instances like this, considering fund vintage, entry timing, board representation, and other factors.
These five use cases represent just the beginning. Chronograph’s MCP server has only been online for two weeks and already the applications span portfolio construction, operational efficiency, strategic planning, and relationship management. If you’re a Chronograph client and haven’t yet explored the Chronograph MCP integration with Claude, we encourage you to experiment. And when you discover something interesting, share it with us; we’d love to hear about how you’re using this technology to enhance your day to day.
